I also mentor staff and serve as a senior advisor: an outside consultant who helps your team think through how to approach complex problems and find solutions that fit your organization. • Technology governance & cybersecurity

  I advise nonprofit leaders and boards on technology risk, IT governance, and vendor oversight. This work is about translating technical complexity into clear, actionable recommendations that support your fiduciary responsibilities and mission priorities.

  Cybersecurity & IT risk assessments: Independent evaluation of your cybersecurity posture, disaster recovery readiness, and operational resilience. I identify realistic risks relevant to nonprofits, explain them in clear language suitable for board review, and provide prioritized recommendations that account for your staffing and budget constraints. This includes assessing vendor dependencies, single points of failure, identity and access management, and incident response capabilities.

  Technology governance & vendor oversight: Guidance on how to effectively oversee your IT support relationships, whether you work with managed service providers, part-time contractors, or internal staff. I help you clarify accountability, set appropriate expectations, and establish governance frameworks that work for your organization's size and structure.

  Information systems strategy: Strategic planning for how your technology, data, and systems fit together. Where should you invest? How do you plan so technology supports your mission rather than creating obstacles? I help you navigate these decisions with confidence.

  AI tool use & policy: Practical guidance on when and how to use AI tools in your organization. This includes assessing risks, developing appropriate policies, and understanding fit for nonprofit and conservation contexts.

  Data strategy & architecture: Strategic planning for how you organize and manage your data so it supports multiple needs: program delivery, impact measurement, storytelling, and future capabilities you may not even know you need yet.   Geospatial data planning: Helping you understand where geospatial capabilities fit in your work and how to prepare for them. I also mentor GIS and mapping staff and serve as a senior advisor: helping your team think through how to approach geospatial problems, evaluate tools and methods, and solve challenges in ways that fit your organization.

  Staff mentoring & senior advisory: Mentoring your GIS, mapping, or spatial analysis staff as an outside senior advisor. I help your team think through how to approach problems, from workflow design and tool choices to communicating results and planning new projects. Whether you need a sounding board for a tricky analysis, guidance as staff take on more responsibility, or a senior perspective on when to build in-house vs. bring in help, I can work alongside your people to build capacity and approach problems with confidence.

  Geospatial strategy & planning: Helping you figure out what's possible with geospatial tools and how they fit in your work. This includes assessing your current capabilities, identifying opportunities (web applications, interactive tools, analysis workflows), evaluating vendors or platforms, and planning implementation approaches that work within your constraints.

  Publication-ready maps & design: Creating maps that communicate your mission effectively, with strong design and solid data foundations. I use GIS and design tools (including MAPublisher for Adobe Illustrator) to produce maps that match your branding and work across different contexts: web, print, signage, or presentations. I can work directly with your graphic design team to ensure consistency.

  Interactive web mapping & applications: Strategic guidance and implementation support for web-based geospatial tools. I help you envision what's possible, evaluate approaches, and then either guide your work with developers or implement solutions directly. This includes everything from simple embedded maps to more complex applications that engage your audience or support internal workflows.

  Spatial analysis & technical guidance: Support for analytical questions, technical challenges, or capacity-building around geospatial tools. I can serve as a strategic advisor helping you work through complex problems, a project manager coordinating technical teams, or a direct implementer depending on what makes sense for your situation.

  Leveraging existing GIS investments: Many organizations have GIS capabilities they're not fully using. I help you understand what you already have, identify opportunities to get more value from existing tools or data, and plan how to expand capabilities strategically rather than starting from scratch.
